I have installed Sage Accounts but the serial number and/or activation key are being rejected. Why is this and how can I correct the problem?

June 30th, 2010

If you are sure that your serial number and activation key are correct, insufficient Windows permissions may cause this problem. To run Sage Accounts successfully, each user should have full control of the Sage Accounts program directory.

To correct the problem, the user’s access rights must be amended to give them full read/write access to this directory.

Note: If you are unsure about how to do this, please refer to your IT Administrator or Windows User Guide.

If after checking your access rights you are still unable to activate your software, please contact Sage Customer Services on 0845 111 55 55.

Sage Instant Accounts V16 Released

March 12th, 2010

The latest version of Sage’s entry level accounting software is now available for purchase. If you are thinking of upgrading, here are the new features available:

Import from Microsoft Excel
To save time on data entry, you can now import data that has been saved in a Microsoft® Excel file (.xls and .xlsx). You can also import .csv files, giving you extra flexibility and saving you time when transferring your existing data into Instant Accounts.

Latest legislation updates
If you trade in the EC, as of January 2010 your VAT returns now need to show a clear split between goods and services. In the new Instant Accounts you can set different tax codes to easily distinguish between goods and services, whilst still making sure you’re compliant. And, as online VAT submissions are mandatory in 2010, you’ll also find the online submissions process easy to use.

Credit from an invoice
Do you ever need to reduce the value of an invoice, for example because of non-delivery of goods or a change in the order? The credit button allows credits to be created from an invoice and allocated against it. This is done automatically, saving you time and reducing errors.

Sage Pay ‘pay now’ option
If you’re a Sage Pay user you can now add a ‘pay now’ button to your invoices in Instant Accounts for speedy payment. For example, if you send invoices by email you can embed a ‘pay now’ button in your invoice. This lets your customers make immediate card payments online via the Sage Pay website - which provides more flexibility of payment as well helping to improve your cash flow.

Record Barcodes
You can now record barcodes in a new field in Instant Accounts – and print them off on invoices and statements, which is a great way to track and trace products and documents, or speed up stock takes. If you currently use barcode software, this will be a real time saver for both you and your customers.

New Report Browser
Reports give you the information you need to manage your business. In the new Sage Instant Accounts it’s quicker to browse through reports as they’re all in one place. You’ll also find it quick and easy to add the most useful reports as ‘favourites’ and select the ‘most recently run’.

    Microsoft Exits Accounting Software market

    November 23rd, 2009

After only 2 years, Microsoft has decided to exit the UK bookkeeping software market. From the 16th November 2009 they will no longer distribute Microsoft Office Accounting and from October 30, 2009, Microsoft will transfer customer support for existing users of Office Accounting in the UK to Mamut Software Ltd.

The demise of Microsoft’s attempt to gain market share in an already overcrowded market is a setback for those who have bought the product, however, don’t despair, as Sage are currently offering a 25% discount to entice users of competitor products to switch to Sage 50 Accounts 2010. When added to our additional discount, there is a very compelling case to switch to Sage (For as little as £286.00 ex vat).
